Hi, I’m Sara! I’m a data scientist and curriculum developer at the Stanford Data Lab and an Adjunct Lecturer at Stanford University.

Work

I help others learn how to work with data, primarily in R using the tidyverse. You can see examples of content I’ve worked on under Projects.

Alongside Bill Behrman and Hadley Wickham, I co-teach the Data Challenge Lab (DCL), an intensive, project-based course designed to teach students of all academic backgrounds fundamental data science skills. You can see the latest version of our curriculum here.

If you’re interested in receiving updates about the DCL (whether you’re a Stanford student, fellow educator, or just an interested person), you can sign up for our newsletter.

Non-work

I live in San Francisco, but have not yet ridden a scooter anywhere.

Previously

I received both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Symbolic Systems from Stanford.

For my master’s thesis, I worked with Hyo Gweon and Sophie Bridgers in the Social Learning Lab. We investigated how 2- 3-year-olds use information about others’ failures to decide how to help. If you’re curious, you can read my thesis here.
